Understanding Stress Tolerance

Stress tolerance is the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, it is a crucial skill for anyone in the business world.

You need to learn how to care about things mentally but not emotionally, as this will impact your decision making and get you stressed out and prevent you from analysing things logically.

If you are a service provider, you are taking away other people's problems and stress in exchange for money, meaning the more stress you can tolerate the more money you will make in your business.

Something Will Always Go Wrong

Anybody who has set up, operated or been involved in managing a business will understand that things go wrong all of the time.

This is one of the main reasons most people quit at the first hurdle, they get worked up and can't deal with the pressure.

Meaning that those who learn how to deal with the stress involved in business will inevitably be able to make it work.

The Role of Professionalism

If you've ever seen a master or professional at work in their respective field, you will notice that they are unfazed by what is thrown at them.

Anytime something goes wrong, they handle it in style, they don't whine and complain abot how big of an issue they're facing, or that it's them that have to sort it, they just do what they're meant to do.

You usually have two types of people - the one that doesn't care abot work, and the one who gets overly emotionally involved, you don't want to be any of these.

You want to care about your business obviously, but your approach should be "Okay there's a problem, what's the solution?".

Don't go all panic mode and emotional when confronted with an issue, no matter how big or small it is.

Signs Of Low Stress Tolerance and How To Improve It

Common phrases by people with low stress tolerance include "I don't have enough energy", "I don't have time for that", That's too much work for me".

If this sounds like you, then you might have low stress tolerance, there is nothing wrong with this at the moment as you we're most likely programmed to think this way through childhood, and we're going to move forward to improve it.

To get better at tolerating stress that life throws at you, put yourself through uncomfortable situations daily, start a new side business and increase your work load for example.

"But I already have my job and I go for my daily walk", that's great, but if you want to intentionally get better at increasing your tolerance to stress, you have to go through more stress, which means putting yourself through situations that is hard to deal with and will help you grow, this is subjective to each person as we all have different pains.

Pick something that YOU would find difficult, and go away to put yourself through the ringer in that scenario, and you will come out a better, more competent and stronger individual.
